Animals
and Vehicles
When
you click the thumbnail images above you will see detailed
information.Including a larger photo, the size of the piece
pictured, status/availability of the piece, and information
on color, design and surface. and variations for similiar
pieces.
Each piece is hand built and hand painted by Andrée,
and therefore the size, shape, color and details on each vehicle
will be different. The animal in the vehicle varies,as does
its position, expression, and pattern and color of it's surface.
So, if you are interested in purchasing one of these pieces,
please keep in mind that size, color, and surface treatment
represented by the examples you see on this site are approximate.
The
vehicles start their life as two bowls, made by pinching a
ball of clay thinner and thinner until it becomes a hollow
form. The shape varies depending on which vehicle is being
created. The body of the vehicle is made by joining the two
bowls together. For the planes, the wings and tail are cut
from slabs of clay and are filed to shape and attacted to
the body. Then for both cars and planes, the animals are modelled,
hollowed out and then attacted to the plane and the details
are applied. Andrée usually work in sets of three.
Finally the entire piece is sponged to make it smooth for
painting (This, it is believed, is where the erroneous notion
that her pieces are slip cast arose.) The piece is then allowed
to dry and is fired. She then paints the decoration with underglaze
and brushes a transparent glaze on top and refires. The wheels
are then attached and the piece is complete.
Andrée's
work is represented by various galleries throught the US.
